Experimental, numerical, and economic examination of a solar thermal collector equipped with a novel jet impingement
Abstract The present research investigates the impact of four slot jet arrangements in a solar air collector on heat transfer characteristics, pressure loss, and cost. The four cases are Case A, Case B, Case C, and Case D. The study is carried out using a heat flux of 900 W/m 2 with Reynolds numbers varying from 3000 to 19000. The results show that Case A has an average useful heat gain that is 1.17% more than the smooth case while having the lowest Nusselt number. Case B has the greatest Nusselt number, which is 23.81% higher than the smooth case. Case A has a maximum thermal efficiency of 69% at Re = 8700, and its average thermal efficiency is 11.87% higher than the smooth case. Case A has the lowest average cost per heat energy, around 1.08 LE/kW, while Case D has the highest average, around1.28 LE/kW. Case A can be utilized to create a novel design for a solar collector with jet impingement since it generates much useful heat, has a high thermal efficiency, and is low-cost per unit.
