Toolkit to Reduce Inequalities Connected to the Use of Artificial Intelligence:Deliverable of the Digital Economy Working Group - G20 South Africa
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have been developing at extraordinary pace, permeating all aspects of our lives, reshaping economies and societies, and offering opportunities to improve productivity, foster innovation, and enhance public services. The ability to leverage the transformative potential of AI nevertheless depends on factors including
infrastructure and human capital endowment. Paucity or lack of such enablers may impinge upon individuals’ and countries’ ability to benefit from AI and raises concerns about AI potentially widening or deepening inequalities, both existing and new. Addressing such concerns calls for better understanding and greater awareness about the possible inequalities connected to the development, deployment and use of AI; and for well-designed, coordinated policy action
effectively addressing such challenges, so that individuals and countries alike can seize the benefits that AI technologies may bring.
