Peculiar and Rare Presentation of Herpes Zoster Involving the Half of the Tongue – A Rare Case Report
Abstract A rare and unique case of herpes zoster (HZ) is presented, involving the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve and affecting the left half of the tongue, in addition to the left half of the face. A 38-year-old female patient presented with painful fluid-filled lesions, which were diagnosed as HZ based on clinical examination, Tzanck smear, and histopathological findings. The patient showed prompt resolution of symptoms after 1 week of treatment with valacyclovir. This case highlights the importance of considering HZ in the differential diagnosis of painful oral and facial lesions and emphasizes the rarity of tongue involvement in HZ infections.
