FORMAL MODEL OF CLIENT-SIDE RESILIENCE IN MOBILE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS WITH RETRY POLICIES
Mobile distributed systems operate in environments characterized by high entropy, where network partitions, packet loss, and fluctuating latency are the norm rather than the exception. Achieving system reliability in such stochastic environments necessitates robust client-side resilience mech- anisms that go beyond simple error handling. This paper presents a formal state-transition model for asynchronous operations under probabilistic failure conditions. We propose a rigorous mapping of these formalisms to Typhoon, a Swift-based resilience framework. By analyzing the theoretical bounds of retry strategies—specifically Constant, Exponential, and Exponential with Jitter—we demonstrate that formalizing declarative retry logic significantly mitigates the "thundering herd" problem, optimizes battery utilization, and maximizes the probability of eventual consistency in mobile agents.
