Assessment of whole-body and hand radiation exposure in veterinary clinic staff
Abstract Radiology is a crucial diagnostic tool used extensively in veterinary surgery as a presurgical step. The primary purpose is to obtain accurate diagnostic information to achieve a specific therapeutic effect adhering to the principle of ALARA. This research aims to estimate the dose received by the animal operating room team at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Shiraz University in Shiraz, Iran. The values for Hp (10) and Hp (0.07) were measured using thermoluminescent dosemeters (TLD), type TLD-100, for 3 months in 60 Imaging therapeutic processes of small domestic and large farm animals. The results showed that the equivalent dose to the body and hands, Hp (10) and Hp (0.07) received by the surgeon and radiology operator, is 1 ± 0.1, 1.2 ± 0.2 and 0.2 ± 0.1, and 0.39 ± 0.1 mSv, respectively. However, implementing proper radiation protection was observed, but the dose to the personnel members can be reduced.
