Adaptation and Construct Validation of The Self-Control Scale for Verbal Aggression (SC-VAS) among Elementary School Students

This study aimed to adapt and validate the Self-Control Scale for Verbal Aggression (SC-VAS) among elementary school students. The instrument was developed by integrating the Indonesian version of the Brief Self-Control Scale with the Behavioral Aggression Preference Tool for Generation Alpha. The scale construction was grounded on five key dimensions: (1) directing attention, (2) regulating stimuli, (3) anticipating events, (4) interpreting situations, and (5) controlling decisions.Item development was guided by theoretical frameworks and evaluated by expert panels using the Content Validity Index (CVI), assessing item relevance, importance, and clarity.Construct validity was examined through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), revealing the need for model revision. The revised model demonstrated excellent fit indices (RMSEA = .000;CFI = 1.000;TLI = 1.011).The final structure retained five core dimensions with 13 items, each displaying factor loadings ranging from .60 to .81.Composite Reliability (CR = .926)indicated a high level of internal consistency.Although the Average Variance Extracted (AVE = .479)was slightly below the ideal threshold (.50), convergent validity was deemed acceptable, as the CR exceeded .70 and all items showed loadings above .60.Therefore, the SC-VAS is considered a valid and reliable instrument for psychological assessment and educational interventions aiming to enhance self-control over verbal aggression in elementary school students.
