Pre-Dirac Physics: Residual Structures Beyond Collapse

Quantum Ultrametric Rigidity (QUR) defines a class of admissible discrete substrata endowed with finiteness, hierarchical organization, and structural locality. In Dirac as the Continuum Survivor (DQ), it was shown that the continuum projection acts as a massive structural collapse: almost all microscopic organization is erased, and Dirac-type operators emerge as the unique autonomous first-order survivors, independently of the details of the discrete realization. Continuum physics is thereby reinterpreted as a rigid terminal regime of survival rather than as the generative level of physical structure. The present work moves one logical step earlier. Instead of asking what survives collapse, we ask what is already physically active before survival. We introduce pre-Dirac physics (p-DQ): an autonomous physical domain internal to the admissible QUR substratum, prior to the continuum survivor, in which physical content is not carried by smooth dynamics but by structurally selected residual degrees of freedom. To delimit this domain, we formulate the Structural Selection Principle (SSP), which separates sterile discrete organization from physically admissible pre-Dirac structures. We then establish the first positive result of pre-Dirac physics, the Activation Theorem, dual to the Collapse Theorem of DQ: minimal non-tree structures in QUR do not participate in the selection of the Dirac survivor, yet they activate autonomous physical residues in the form of irreducible holonomy phases. This proves that a physically active regime exists below the level of the continuum survivor. On this basis, we define the notion of pre-Dirac residue and construct the first Catalogue of physically admissible residues. The catalogue is not a classification of discrete models, but a structural taxonomy of distinct modes of pre-Dirac physical activity. It identifies residual topology, residual spectral organization, residual hierarchy, and defect-based obstructions as the first populated classes of this new physical domain. The resulting picture relocates the locus of fundamental physics. Physical content is no longer identified with continuum law or with its microscopic corrections alone, but with what collapse cannot erase: structurally selected residues that persist without becoming dynamics. Continuum physics appears accordingly as a late and highly constrained regime of expression, in which only a narrow subset of pre-Dirac physical content can still be represented. This work establishes pre-Dirac physics as a genuine physical domain inside QUR, equipped with its own principle of selection, its own class of physical objects, and its first internal taxonomy. It thereby opens a new program: the systematic investigation of residual structure as a foundational layer of physical reality. Author’s note This work belongs to a longer path. What began in QUR as an exploration of limits, admissibility, and rigidity has progressively revealed a deeper structure: not everything that can exist can become law, and not everything that persists can be captured by equations. With DQ and with the present paper, that intuition has taken a precise form. QUR constrains what can exist. p-DQ identifies where physics begins. The developments presented here do not close a program. They shift it. From the search for an ultimate dynamics to the exploration of structural conditions, irreducible identities, and the forms of persistence that no collapse can erase. This paper can be read technically and locally. But it is also part of a broader conceptual arc. For this reason, I warmly invite the reader to turn, after the main text, to the Final Note. It is there that the horizon of this work is stated most openly, and where the kind of physics suggested here finds its most direct expression.
