A novel sensors technologies for structural health monitoring of civil structures

This paper explores a novel self-powered sensor (NSPS) designed for civil structures health monitoring. It combines several key technologies, including large-scale low-power wireless data transmission, self-harvesting of environmental energy, and intelligent sensing, allowing it to function reliably over extended periods, even in complex and variable conditions. The self-powered feature of this sensor supports long-term monitoring of structure performance, greatly enhancing both coverage and efficiency. By fine-tuning the sensor design, will be achieved optimal energy conversion from the harvesting unit. To test the functionality and practicality of this new NSPS, a case study on an actual bridge project will be conducted, developing a monitoring scheme rooted in the principles of the structure. When compared to traditional monitoring techniques, this innovative approach offers significant improvements in the sustainability and effectiveness of infrastructure monitoring using the NSPS. It clearly showcases this sensor's impressive capabilities and lays a solid foundation for advancements in intelligent transportation and smart infrastructure.
