Assessment of Dominant Shark and Ray Species and Their Size at Brondong and Muncar Ports, East Java, Indonesia

Shark and ray species are both limited in number and distribution and require time to mature and reproduce, making these species extremely vulnerable to mass exploitation as a resource. Based on the identification results, Muncar Port Banyuwangi had 26 species from 490 ray samples, and Brondong Port Lamongan had 28 species from 1830 ray samples. Fifteen species of rays were found only in Brondong, 17 species of rays were found only in Muncar, and as many as 13 were found in the two sample sites. As for sharks in Muncar, 38 out of 679 species were Brondong samples and 22 out of 1126 samples. The only Muncar 21 species in the Brondong 5 species and those found in both sampling were 17 species. Muncar landed dominant rays Neotrygon orientalis, Taeniura lymma, Mobula mobular, Mobula thurstoni, Himantura uarnak, Rhinobatos jimbaranensis, Maculabatis gerrardi, Gymnura zonura, Hemitrygon akajei, Gymnura japonica. For those in Brondong, the types of rays that will be on land are Rhynchobatus australiae, Neotrygon orientalis, Maculabatis gerrardi, Rhynchobatus springeri, Glaucostegus typus, Gymnura zonura, Rhynchobatus laevis, Rhina ancylostoma, Pateobatis uarnacoides, and Telatrygon zugei. The dominant species of shark landings at Brondong are Carcharhinus falciformis, Carcharhinus melanopterus, Carcharhinus sealei, Chiloscyllium punctatum, Galeocerdo cuvier, Hemigaleus microstoma, Hemipristis elongate, Rhizoprionodon oligolinx, Sphyrna lewini, Stegostoma fasciatum. while the dominant species caught in Muncar are Alopias pelagicus, Alopias superciliosus, Atelomycterus marmoratus, Carcharhinus brevipinna, Carcharhinus falciformis, Carcharhinus melanopterus, Chiloscyllium punctatum, Galeocerdo cuvier, Sphyrna lewini, and Squalus altipinnis. The catch or presence of sharks and rays is determined by fishing gear, location, and time. It was limited to Muncar, Brondong, Brondong, and Muncar.
