The third root exudation pathway: Glutamine that leaks from defects in the endodermis recruits and assembles bacteria
This commentary describes a study displaying the dynamic process of bacterial recruitment from plants through the leakage of glutamine from a defect in the endodermis layer. Leakage of glutamine from the root and bacterial chemotaxis both contribute to the colonization and proliferation of bacteria.
