Large Eddy Simulation of a 45-Degree Expansion-Compression Corner at Mach 3
This paper will examine the capability of Implicit Large Eddy Simulation (ILES) in predicting a 45-degree expansion-compression corner at Mach 3. The separation region size in this problem is large, covering the entire inclined section of the geometry (i.e., the whole section between the expansion corner and the compression corner). This large separation region will result in flow structures that are hard to predict with Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations. The predicted surface pressure agrees with experimental data.
