Voces dentro de voces. Cómo citan los hispanohablantes en estilo directo en entrevistas semidirigidas
Direct quotation is a complex linguistic phenomenon that has gained significant importance as a subject of study in recent decades. This study aims to describe its functioning in Latin American Spanish and to examine how social factors (geographical area, gender, age, and educational level) influence its use.To achieve this, oral data from nineteen Spanish-speaking cities were analyzed, collected as part of the Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish in Spain and Latin America (PRESEEA, Moreno Fernndez, 2021).The findings reveal distinct sociolinguistic patterns across regions, which highlight both similarities -notably the predominance of direct quotation with an introductory frame, particularly using the verb say-and differences among cities. Some areas, such as the Mexican variety, exhibit a higher frequency of direct quotation, whereas others, like those in the Southern Cone, show a lower frequency.
