Gereduceerde-ordemodellering voor efficiënte structurele dynamische simulatie van (a)periodieke eindige metamateriaalstructuren

The aim of this project is to develop robust Reduced Order Methods (ROM) which can be applied for multi-scale noise and vibration harshness (NVH) simulation of 3D printed metamaterial structures. Those complex structures are mostly represented by a unit cell or a Representative Volume Element (RVE). By considering the combination of multiple Unit-cells, real and finite sized structures are obtained. Many simulations, however, are based on the unit cell, and applying strong assumptions on the boundary conditions to limit the computational load (infinite, periodic structures). In practice however, these assumptions appear rather inaccurate. This strongly limits the practical predictive properties of these models, which is key to develop the most performant materials and structures in real-life applications. The main aim of this PhD is to develop novel model order reduction techniques which allow to consider more efficient modelling schemes to account for real boundary conditions. A range of novel material classes will be considered and the developed techniques will need to handle the complex frequency dependent behaviour present in these materials.
