A Novel Bidirectional LCC‐LCC Compensated IPT Charging System for G2V and V2G Applications

ABSTRACT The bidirectional inductive power transfer (IPT) system enables the electrical power flow between the electric vehicles (EVs) and the grid in both directions. A novel bidirectional LCC‐LCC compensated IPT system for grid‐to‐vehicle (G2V) and vehicle‐to‐grid (V2G) applications is proposed in this brief. The proposed system operates as a reconstructed LCC‐LCC topology with inherent constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) outputs for G2V mode and as a conventional LCC‐LCC topology with CV output for V2G mode. In G2V and V2G operating modes, the system achieves near zero phase angle (ZPA) to reduce power ratings and to facilitate soft switching. Besides, real‐time wireless communication, voltage/current sensors and complex control methods are not required, which results in a simple and cost‐effective system. The operating modes of G2V and V2G are presented, along with the parameter design to meet these modes. A scaled‐down experimental prototype with 800 W output power is established to validate the effectiveness of the proposed bidirectional IPT system.
