Enhancing Risk Operational Resilience, Adaptability, and Transformation Through Competitive Intelligence
This study examines the role of Competitive Intelligence (CI) in enhancing operational risk resilience and operational agility within volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments, with a particular focus on the banking sector. Adopting an inductive research approach, the study employs a systematic literature review supported by template analysis to synthesize existing empirical and conceptual research. The findings reveal that CI functions as a strategic organizational capability that reduces vulnerability, mitigates information asymmetry, and strengthens early-warning systems and adaptive risk-management processes. The analysis identifies key thematic areas, including intelligence-enabled risk mitigation, CI-driven operational agility, and persistent methodological and sectoral gaps in the existing literature. Based on these insights, the study recommends embedding CI more formally within organizational risk-governance frameworks, enhancing cross-functional integration among intelligence, risk, and strategic units, and expanding analytical capabilities through advanced digital technologies. Additionally, the study highlights the need for greater methodological diversity, including longitudinal and mixed-method research designs, as well as broader geographic coverage to improve the generalizability and theoretical development of CI research in complex banking environments.
