Beyond convenience: exploring the impact of IoT smart home adoption on users' well-being
Purpose The imminent forefront of the technological landscape is likely to be formed by the influence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its applications, particularly exemplified by the advent of smart homes. Therefore, this study seeks an in-depth comprehension of the factors underlying individuals’ continuous intention to use IoT smart homes, while concurrently exploring the effect on users' well-being. Design/methodology/approach This study examines the proposed framework that combines the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with domain-specific factors and well-being. This model underwent testing with a sample of 404 respondents employing the PLS-SEM approach. Findings Findings based on the sample of 404 respondents revealed the prominent role of perceived ease of use, followed by personal innovativeness and compatibility, in determining users’ continuous intention to use. Furthermore, this study established a positive relationship between continuous intention to use IoT smart homes and users’ well-being. Originality/value This study stands as one of the pioneering investigations that examines the relation between smart home adoption and user well-being through an integrated model of costs and benefits. By considering and implementing the insights from this study, service providers and regulatory authorities can effectively navigate the smart home landscape and contribute to improved consumer well-being and quality of life.
