Wing-in-Ground Crafts in Europe: From History to Contemporary Developments -TransNav Conference Presentation (2025)
This presentation examines the historical and contemporary development of wing-in-ground (WIG) crafts in Europe, tracing their evolution from early prototypes to modern flying models. It discusses different WIG craft types, sizes, and deployment concepts, highlighting Europe’s long-standing role in the development of ground-effect vehicles since the 1930s. The presentation emphasises the importance of historical knowledge, technical foundations, and cross-country experience exchange in shaping current and future innovation in WIG craft technology. It is based on a conference paper submitted to the TransNav 2025 Conference.
