Effects of XR-Based Exercise Program on Body Composition, Physical Fitness, and Psychological Factors in Obese Adult Males

This study investigated the effects of a 4-week XR-based exercise program on body composition, physical fitness, and psychological factors in obese adult males. Sixty obese adult males (BMI ≥25 kg/m²) were randomly assigned to fitness XR+VR group (n=20), adventure XR+VR group (n=20), and control group (n=20). The XR program was conducted 3 times per week for 45 minutes over 4 weeks. Data were analyzed using 3×2 repeated measures ANOVA. Significant group×time interactions were observed for body weight (F=12.64, p<.001), BMI (F=11.23, p<.001), body fat percentage (F=15.87, p<.001), and fat mass (F=13.95, p<.001). Both XR groups showed significant improvements in muscle strength and endurance, while balance improved only in the fitness XR+VR group. Both XR groups demonstrated improved exercise adherence intention and immersion, while physical self-efficacy increased only in the fitness XR+VR group. The XR-based exercise program effectively improved multiple health dimensions in obese adult males, with differential effects between content types suggesting the importance of personalized XR exercise prescription.
