Giant Tunability of Individual Magnetic Skyrmion Size via an Oscillating Local Magnetic Field
ABSTRACT Magnetic skyrmions hold great promise as memory and computing elements in future spintronic devices. Despite the demonstration of various devices, techniques for addressable and high‐precision manipulation of individual skyrmions remain scarce. This study presents an experimental realization of size‐continuous step‐resolved skyrmion tuning under ambient conditions using periodic magnetic force microscopy (MFM) excitation. The writing and deletion of selected skyrmions can be achieved in a controlled manner. The skyrmion size can be continuously tuned from hundreds of nanometers down to tens of nanometers, achieving nearly an order of magnitude reduction. The threshold skyrmion size can be significantly reduced. Micromagnetic simulations reveal that the oscillating field can induce partial distortions in skyrmion configurations, thereby mitigating pinning effects and enabling more efficient control. Our results may offer a more efficient and controllable approach for engineering topological spin textures.
