TRIBOCORROSION ANALYSIS OF COBALT–NICKEL–MOLYBDENUM–GRAPHENE (CO–NI–MO–G) NANOCOMPOSITE COATINGS
To protect steel surfaces in industrial applications and enhance their wear and corrosion resistance, researchers are focusing on graphene-based nanocomposite coatings. This study depicts the wear and corrosion properties of coatings made from cobalt–nickel–molybdenum (Co–Ni–Mo), Co–Ni–Mo with[Formula: see text]0.15 weight percent graphene (Co–Ni–Mo-G 0.15[Formula: see text]wt.%), and Co–Ni–Mo with 0.45[Formula: see text]weight percent graphene (Co–Ni–Mo-G 0.45[Formula: see text]wt.%) applied to mild steel substrates using the pulsed electrodeposition technique. The results revealed that the addition of graphene, particularly at 0.45[Formula: see text]wt.%, to the Co–Ni–Mo coating significantly improved its ductile load-bearing capacity and wear resistance. This enhancement is attributed to graphene’s ability to strengthen the matrix, refine grain structure, and enable efficient grain size control. Additionally, the Co–Ni–Mo-G 0.45[Formula: see text]wt.% coating demonstrated superior corrosion resistance compared to the plain Co–Ni–Mo coating. The presence of graphene in the nanocomposite composition resulted in better grain strength and enhanced surface properties, making it a promising material for industrial applications requiring robust steel surface protection.
