Structural Limitations and Improvement Directions of Sports Leader Qualification Training System
This study aimed to analyze the current operation and structural limitations of Korea’s physical education instructor training system and to propose strategies for improving its effectiveness. In-depth interviews were conducted with trainees, theoretical course instructors, field training institution managers, and field instructors at training centers in the Seoul. Theoretical instructors reported low trainee motivation, outdated materials, unstandardized curricula, and limited media use, suggesting the need for updated textbooks and level-based, behavior-oriented education. Trainees identified the lack of customized programs, insufficient field cases, lecture-centered teaching, and unstable registration systems, emphasizing the need for case-based learning and stable practicum management. Field training managers pointed out inadequate facilities, weak institutional cooperation, and limited administrative support, calling for differentiated education and greater administrative and financial assistance. Field instructors highlighted gaps between theory and practice, heavy workloads, low engagement, and weak employment linkage, stressing the need for practice-oriented programs and continuous feedback. Overall, improving the quality and professionalism of the instructor training system requires enhancing motivation, developing multimedia-based materials, strengthening practicum programs, and establishing integrated pathways between certification and employment.
