How do Gender Issues Mark the Career Paths of Canadian Service Sector Employees in a Digital Transformation Context

This paper aims to advance a better understanding of how gender issues mark employee career paths in a digital transformation (DT) context. The study is based on a qualitative research methodology using one-on-one interviews with 44 employees of private companies in the Canadian insurance industry. Findings reveal a variety of entryways to first positions in this industry as well as gendered involvement in DT projects which can result in being either barriers or levers for career pathing. The present paper contributes to broaden the understanding of women’s career paths in a DT context by making gender-related issues visible.
