A Generation Capacity-Based Harmonic Emission Allocation Method for Multi-WPP Grid Integration

With the increasing of renewable energy, wind power plants (WPPs) have become a trend of modern power systems. However, connecting multiple WPPs to a common point of coupling (PCC) may lead to power quality challenges, such as harmonic distortion. The multi-WPPs that inject harmonic currents into the grid may interact and cause resonation at the PCC to amplify harmonic distortion to affect the grid stability. While existing standards define harmonic distortion limits at individual grid nodes, they lack a practical framework for allocating harmonic emissions from multiple WPPs at a shared PCC. This study uses DigSILENT PowerFactory to model and simulate the integration of several WPPs with varying power generation capacities into a common busbar. An allocation method based on generation capacity is proposed to distribute harmonic emission limits among the WPPs. The results demonstrate a scalable and practical approach for harmonic coordination in high-penetration renewable energy scenarios.
