Two-Year Follow-Up after Treatment with the Trenza Embolization Device for Wide-Neck Intracranial Aneurysms
The Trenza embolization device is a frame coil implant with flow disruption properties developed to treat broad-necked aneurysms. We previously reported our first experiences with the Trenza device. We now report 2-year outcomes to assess treatment durability and safety over time. This was an observational single-center retrospective study of consecutive patients treated for an unruptured or ruptured 6- to 12-mm broad-necked bifurcation or sidewall aneurysm with the Trenza device during 2022-2023. We report 2-year angiographic outcomes, late hemorrhagic, and ischemic complications. Twelve patients (median age 64 years) with 12 aneurysms (median diameter 9.6 mm) were treated. One patient died of aneurysm rupture 1.6 months postprocedure. After a median follow-up of 25.9 (interquartile range 24.8-26.5) months, adequate aneurysm occlusion (modified Raymond-Roy occlusion classification [mRROC] I-II) was achieved in 91% and complete occlusion (mRROC I) in 55%. No late ischemic or hemorrhagic complications occurred. Trenza-assisted coiling achieved a high and stable 2-year adequate occlusion rate in mid- to large-sized broad-necked aneurysms, without late ischemic or hemorrhagic events.
