Deliverable 4.5 - IPM strategies of 25 NCC's
Please note that this deliverable has not yet been approved by the European Commission. This deliverable contains 25 reports which describe exemplary IPM strategies for every case study within the SUPPORT project, by relying on the IPM inventory that was already provided in Deliverable 1.1 of this project. The crops that are being studied within SUPPORT are: wheat, maize, onion, potato, strawberry, apple, wine grape and olive. The aim is to combine the IPM tools from Deliverable 1.1 into complete crop protection strategies for the most important cropping systems of each NCC (National Crop Cluster). For each cropping system, two scenarios were drafted, one that is representative for the majority of the farmers (stateof-the-art scenario) and one that is being used by a minority of farmers who are more sustainability oriented (IPM improved scenario). Each NCC leader within the project was tasked with the selection and the description of the strategies and scenarios using the provided templates (Annex 6.9). The crop protection strategies presented in this deliverable can be used as a guide for bilateral talks with farmers or during meetings with a larger group of farmers on IPM tools and strategies. It can inspire farmers and advisors to consider additional or different IPM tools that can lower their pesticide use and the associated pressure on health and the environment. They can moreover use the information gathered in this deliverable to combine the IPM tools into crop protection strategies that can deal with climate change and regulatory restrictions. The 25 IPM strategies reports will be further used in task 1.3 of the SUPPORT project, in which the IPM monitoring system that is being developed in task 1.2 will be applied to the current and future IPM crop protection scenarios. This will provide an impact assessment of the crop protection strategies regarding pest control efficacy, economic performance of farms and the environmental and social impact.
