Recent Advances in Agricultural Selenium Chemistry
Selenium (Se), an essential trace element in life, is crucial for maintaining human health. However, approximately 70% of China's land area is affected by Se deficiency, leaving over one billion people in need of Se supplementation. Globally, there is a vast Se-deficient belt across Eurasia, where Japan, South Korea, Russia, Mongolia, and some European countries are located. Developing agricultural selenium chemistry is an effective way to address the worldwide Se deficiency issue, with innovations in Se fertilizer technology serving as its core support. This paper systematically reviews the development history of Se fertilizers, analyzes the defects of natural mineral Se fertilizers, inorganic Se fertilizers, and nano-Se fertilizers in their application, and focuses on the application value of selenized glucose, a new generation of organoselenium sources in Se-enriched cultivation.
