Pregnancy- and Abortion-Related Mortality in the US, 2018-2021
This cross-sectional study found that the ratio of pregnancy- to abortion-related mortality from 2018 to 2021 ranged from 44.3 to 69.6, at least 3 times higher than the ratio of 14.7 calculated using data from 1998 to 2005. These findings suggest that by taking away the option to end a pregnancy, abortion bans force pregnant people to take on the increased health risks associated with continued pregnancy.
