Review of: What You Don’t See is What You Don’t Get. Pitfalls of Effortless Photorealism in Archaeological Field Documentation. Round#2/Reviewer#1
in a session titled 'Photorealist[ish] -Another look at appearance and 3D documentation in heritage'.The session invited people to take a broader view of trends in documentation and presentation in archaeology that go beyond concepts of perceived geometric accuracy and realism and the "[clichd] question of pretty pictures or research tool" (emphasis added) (Lanjouw, 2016).This contribution brought a welcome theoretical and reflexive perspective to the discussion highlighting changes in practice and our relationship to our subject that many of us are subconsciously aware of, but find difficult to define.
