SALINITY-INDUCED MUSCLE DISORDERS IN JHARKHAND: A PHYSIOTHERAPY-BASED APPROACH TO TREATMENT
Groundwater salinity has emerged as an underrecognized health challenge in Jharkhand, particularly in western and northern districts. Prolonged exposure to high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) disrupts electrolyte balance, impairing neuromuscular function. This study examines three districts—Garhwa (high salinity) Godda (moderate salinity) and Hazaribagh (low-to-moderate salinity)—to evaluate the impact of water salinity on muscle health. A total of 450 respondents were surveyed, with assessments of muscle disorder prevalence and handgrip strength, followed by physiotherapy interventions. Findings reveal that higher TDS correlates with increased muscle disorders and reduced grip strength, while physiotherapy significantly alleviates symptoms.
