CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE APPLICATION OF 3D PRINTING IN THE FIELD OF MEDICAL PROSTHESES

3D printing has revolutionized the manufacturing process of medical prostheses, allowing for extensive customization, cost reduction and shorter production time. The paper critically analyzes the application of this technology in medical prosthetics, exploring both the advantages – such as design flexibility and increased accessibility – and the technological limitations (printing accuracy, material properties, structural strength). Clinical challenges regarding adaptability, patient acceptance and integration into medical practice are also discussed, as well as legal aspects related to EC regulations and ISO standards. The analyzed case studies highlight the real potential, but also the stringent need for testing, validation and legislative compliance. The conclusions emphasize the need for an interdisciplinary approach and the development of clear guidelines for the safe and effective use of 3D printing in the field of prosthetics.
