Study on the performance of self-healing epoxy coatings prepared by the electrostatic spraying method
Abstract To address the accelerated corrosion of metals following damage to epoxy protective coatings, this work incorporates a low-melting-point thermoplastic ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) into an epoxy coating. The self-healing of coating defects is achieved by utilizing the fluidity of molten EVA. It was observed that increasing the EVA content in the composite coating enhanced the self-healing effect and shortened the required healing time. The composite coating with 30 wt% EVA demonstrated the optimal overall performance. However, even after healing, the protective performance of the coating was found to be somewhat compromised.
