Aircraft load estimation using a structured H∞ – H 2 approach

This paper presents the design of a low-order estimator for predicting structural loads, such as the wing root bending moment, for maneuver loads alleviation purposes, considering a structurally and aerodynamically non-linear model under multiple flight conditions. This was accomplished utilizing a multi-model structured $\mathrm{H}_{\infty}-\mathrm{H}_{2}$ approach, which involved the use of several linear reduced-order models. The estimator’s performance was assessed in a non-linear simulation framework at three different flight conditions, both with and without a simple maneuver load alleviation function, showing satisfactory results. Finally, a noise sensitivity study of the estimator was conducted.
