Planning to Write: A Literature Review on the Impact of the Four-Square Writing Method on EFL Learners

This systematic literature review aims to analyze the impact of the Four-Square writing method (FSWM) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching contexts by synthesizing evidence from 2010 onward. The research aims to characterize how the FSWM is implemented in educational settings, examine its learning outcomes, and identify gaps to guide future research and practice. The review was conducted in two phases. The first phase entailed a characterization of ten selected studies focusing on their contexts, student profiles, and educational sectors. The second phase involved an in-depth analysis of the definitions of the FSWM and the learning outcomes reported in these studies.
