An Introduction to Single-Phase and Polyphase Rectifiers in Power Electronics
Rectifiers are fundamental power electronic circuits that convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC), playing a vital role in modern electrical and electronic systems. This lecture note presents an introductory overview of single-phase and polyphase rectifiers used in power electronics. The basic operating principles, circuit configurations, and performance characteristics of uncontrolled and controlled rectifiers are discussed. Emphasis is placed on understanding the differences between single-phase and polyphase rectification in terms of output voltage, ripple content, efficiency, and practical applications. The material aims to provide students with a clear conceptual foundation required for advanced studies in power converters, motor drives, and power control systems.
