Framework for Designing Visual Components of Metaverse
Rapid technological advancements are bringing society closer to the realization of the metaverse—a persistent virtual environment in which users interact through digital avatars. The metaverse integrates multiple technological domains, including virtual reality, three-dimensional graphics, and haptic systems, to create immersive experiences. A critical factor influencing the success of the metaverse is the level of user immersion and engagement within these virtual environments. However, as metaverse development remains in its nascent stage, limited research has focused on incorporating users as central stakeholders in the design process. To address this gap, this paper proposes a user-centered design framework specifically tailored to the visual components of the metaverse, adapted from established user-centered interface design principles. The proposed framework emphasizes the systematic inclusion of user needs and perceptions in the design of key visual elements, namely avatars, non-player characters, and virtual environments. By prioritizing user experience in visual design, the framework aims to enhance immersion, usability, and overall satisfaction in metaverse applications
