Dirac as the Continuum Survivor: collapse of admissible discrete first-order dynamics from Quantum Ultrametric Rigidity

The continuum is usually regarded as the natural arena of fundamental physics. In this work we reverse this perspective and treat the continuum itself as a highly selective regime. We address the structural question of which discrete first-order dynamics can admit an autonomous continuum description at all. Within a precisely defined admissible class of local discrete first-order generators, we establish a collapse theorem. Admissibility enforces strong rigidity: discrete first-order forms collapse to a narrow structural skeleton, autonomous continuum shadows exist, scalar carriers are excluded, and minimal non-commutative internal structure is forced. As a consequence, the classification problem degenerates. All admissible families collapse, up to natural equivalence, onto a single continuum operator class. The unique survivor is of Dirac type. This result is not a derivation of Dirac theory from a particular discrete model. It is a structural inevitability theorem. It shows that Dirac theory is the unique autonomous first-order form that can survive the continuum filter once minimal survivability constraints are imposed. Within the broader framework of Quantum Ultrametric Rigidity (QUR), this fixes the status of continuum physics as a rigid residual regime. It implies that genuinely new physics must reside upstream of the continuum, in pre-continuum structures erased by projection, rather than in deformations of the survivor. Author’s note This work represents, for me, a door: a door that closes, perhaps, at an epistemological level, on certain horizons, and at the same time a door that opens toward new, still unexplored dimensions. I wished to convey this sense of enthusiasm to the reader, because where ancient maps once bore the inscription “Hic sunt leones,” it was precisely there that, in time, breathtaking landscapes were discovered. And where Dante’s Ulysses dared to venture, beyond the Pillars of Hercules, a new continent was hidden. I do not yet have full awareness of the potential concealed in the path I am only beginning to indicate. But the instinct of a lifelong navigator leaves me with a deep and living hope.
