An Overview of Power Diode
Power diodes are fundamental semiconductor devices extensively used in power electronic circuits for rectification, freewheeling, and protection applications. This study presents an overview of the operating principle, construction, and electrical characteristics of power diodes. The behaviour of the diode under forward- and reverse-bias conditions is discussed, along with key performance parameters such as forward voltage drop, reverse recovery time, power dissipation, and thermal considerations. Different types of power diodes and their practical applications in power conversion systems are also highlighted. The study highlights the importance of selecting the proper device to ensure reliable and efficient operation in high-power and high-frequency applications.
