Expanding the dermatological horizon of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists: response to ‘Dermatological and metabolic benefits of semaglutide in psoriasis with obesity: a 6-month prospective cohort study’

We contextualize a prospective open-label study on semaglutide in psoriasis with obesity in a broader clinical and mechanistic context, underscoring improvements in disease severity, quality of life and systemic inflammation that extend beyond weight loss alone. We integrate experimental and clinical evidence supporting direct glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) mediated effects on cutaneous and immune pathways across psoriasis and related inflammatory dermatoses. While these data reinforce the therapeutic promise of GLP-1 receptor agonists, they also highlight the need for randomized, mechanistically driven trials with rigorous safety evaluation to define responders and risks.
