The Spiral Periodic Table - Why Process Reveals What Classification Obscures

This thesis presents a spiral periodic table grounded in H.G. Deming's 1923 classification, arguing that the periodic table maps stable configurations of condensed energy rather than simply categorising elements. The spiral reveals periodicity as process rather than classification. The controversial placement of Group VIIIB transition triads (Fe, Co, Ni) adjacent to Noble Gases (Group 0) is validated through the 18-electron rule and metal carbonyl chemistry. Compounds like Fe(CO)₅ and Ni(CO)₄ demonstrate that these metals achieve noble-gas-like closed-shell configurations with characteristic volatility, diamagnetism, and zero oxidation states. Additional analysis includes: thermodynamic validation via the Iron-56 binding energy peak; topological interpretation of the 2D spiral as projection of a 3D cylindrical helix; and connection to a broader framework treating matter as condensed energy seeking stable configurations under the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The periodicity numbers (2, 8, 18, 32) are shown to reflect allowed harmonics — the configurations the field permits — rather than arbitrary classification. Abstract
