An Algorithm-Driven and IoT-Enabled Framework for Web-Based Cognitive Training: Design and Evaluation of the Circle of Fate Game in UnityNeuroPlay

This paper introduces Circle of Fate (COF), a web-based educational strategy game developed to demonstrate the application of algorithm-driven design and cross-platform deployment in cognitive training systems. Built upon the Josephus Algorithm and integrated into the Unity-based NeuroPlay framework, COF combines advanced game engine capabilities with automated cognitive assessment. The system includes three standardized evaluation modules: the Stroop Test, Continuous Performance Test (CPT), and Tower of London (TOL), which are administered before and after gameplay to measure cognitive change. Designed for browserbased execution, COF employs scalable deployment strategies, ensuring accessibility on any internet-enabled device without platform-specific dependencies. The game’s progressive fourlevel structure dynamically adjusts difficulty, utilizing algorithmic logic to enhance logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and strategic decision-making. The Josephus Algorithm serves both as the core gameplay mechanic and as a means of embedding mathematical problem-solving into the user experience. A 10-day pilot study with eight participants demonstrated measurable improvements in attention, processing speed, and problem-solving skills for most users, particularly those with moderate baseline performance. These results as the benchmark validate the integration of algorithmic computation, web technologies, and game-based interfaces as an effective approach for technology-assisted cognitive development. Future work will involve larger, more diverse groups, improved adaptive algorithms, and randomized controlled trials to assess scalability and broader applicability.
