Constructing determinants of urban brownfield redevelopment in China through the fuzzy Delphi method

This research aims to investigate the determinants of urban brownfield redevelopment in China by employing the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) to identify and prioritize key influencing factors. The research framework encompassed four dimensions: economic, environmental, social, and policy. Based on a literature review, a preliminary indicator system comprising 30 sub-indicators was developed. Through two rounds of expert surveys involving 30 informants and subsequent triangular fuzzy number analysis, the degree of influence and ranking of the factors were determined, with Urban Image (0.607) and Pollution (0.600) emerging as the most significant. By employing the FDM within the Chinese context, this study addressed a notable gap in the existing literature and established a systematic framework for understanding the drivers of brownfield redevelopment. Moreover, the study provides a scientific basis for feasibility assessment and sustainable urban policy formulation, offering a structured foundation for planners and decision-makers to integrate economic, social, environmental, and policy considerations into future urban planning and redevelopment strategies.
