Development and Evaluation of an Intelligent CCTV Surveillance System with Motion Detection and Remote Monitoring

This study presented the development and evaluation of an intelligent Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system that integrates motion detection and remote monitoring functionalities for enhanced security applications. The system was designed using embedded image processing algorithms to detect motion in real time and transmit alerts through a wireless network to authorized users. A remote monitoring interface was also implemented to enable continuous access to live video streams via web and mobile platforms. Experimental evaluation demonstrated that the motion detection algorithm achieved an average detection accuracy of 94.6% under controlled lighting conditions and 89.3% in variable outdoor environments. The system recorded a false alarm rate of 6.2%, primarily due to rapid illumination changes and small non-human movements. End-to-end latency for remote video access was measured at an average of 1.7 seconds over a 4G network, ensuring near real-time monitoring capability. Power consumption analysis indicated an average operating efficiency of 18 W, which supports deployment in energy-constrained environments. The results confirm that the proposed system delivers reliable surveillance performance, combining accuracy, responsiveness, and energy efficiency. Its modular architecture and remote accessibility make it suitable for both residential and commercial security applications, while providing a cost-effective alternative to conventional CCTV systems.
