Korean Medicine for a Pubic Bone Fracture Monitored by Ultrasonography and X-Ray Imaging: A Case Report

This case report aimed to investigate a 53-year-old man with a right pubic bone fracture sustained in a motorcycle accident. The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including acupuncture, anti-inflammatory pharmacopuncture, sweet bee venom, herbal medicine, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation over a 41-day hospital admission. Notably, the healing process was tracked for 6 weeks via serial X-ray imaging and ultrasonographic monitoring, confirming progressive callus formation and recovery. Pain and functional recovery were assessed using the numerical rating scale, range of motion (ROM) test, manual muscle test, EuroQoL- 5 Dimensions-5 Levels questionnaire, and Oswestry Disability Index. The patient showed a significant improvement in pain, ROM, and gait function. Furthermore, this case suggests that Korean medicine may be considered a safe and effective conservative treatment for stable pubic fractures, thereby supporting the use of ultrasonography for monitoring recovery and corroborating the clinical effects of Korean medicine.

The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including acupuncture, anti-inflammatory pharmacopuncture, sweet bee venom, herbal medicine, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation over a 41-day hospital admission.
