Design and Implementation of a Wireless Sensor-Based Security Alarm System for the Engineering Professorial Building, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ikole Campus

The necessity for a sensor alarm system has emerged as a critical measure to prevent situations where employees may accidentally remain locked inside office buildings after hours. As modern workplaces increasingly rely on automated security solutions, the risk of staff being trapped due to unnoticed presence is a growing concern. A well-designed sensor-based alarm system can detect human presence and trigger alerts before automated locking mechanisms are engaged, thus ensuring the safety and well-being of employees. This highlights the significance of such systems in improving workplace security and preventing unintentional confinement by examining their advantages, working mechanisms, and safety consequences. This is accomplished by use of the wireless communication methods, including cellular connections, to link sensors to a central control panel, eliminating the necessity for wiring. The sensors are capable of detecting the presence of any personnel within the office, identifying threats such as smoke and intruders, and notifying the control panel accordingly. The technology is intended to be easily included into the current infrastructures and offers a more secure protection solution. The project makes use of a microcontroller module that is intended to identify the movement of a someone in a certain region and then sound alert. The motion detection is facilitated by a passive infrared wireless sensor that identifies movement based on the body heat of individuals. The passive infrared (PIR) wireless sensor employed in this project is linked to a microcontroller, which notifies the chief security officer by activating the alarm system and any other output devices. Preliminary tests of the design indicate that it functions as intended
