Did court dismiss non‐student's negligence claim?
A 17‐year‐old male visited the Rutgers University campus as an invited guest of a student. The visiting minor signed into the University Square residence hall just after midnight and presented his identification to the front‐desk security. After entering the student's apartment with another guest, the visiting minor voluntarily consumed multiple alcoholic beverages, despite being underage. Shortly afterward, the group attended off‐campus Halloween parties at two privately owned residences known as the “soccer house” and the “baseball house,” where they consumed additional alcohol. Rutgers didn’t own, manage, lease, or exercise control over either location.
