Optimum bias of a Schottky diode for harmonic radar applications

This paper considers the most simple tag of a harmonic radar system at millimeter wave frequencies which consists of an antenna for reception and transmission and a Schottky diode as a nonlinear element. A fundamental performance limit assuming perfect matching between diode and antenna is calculated and the optimum biasing point of the Schottky diode is found. Except of the necessary battery all elements are passive.

Abstract

This paper considers the most simple tag of a harmonic radar system at millimeter wave frequencies which consists of an antenna for reception and transmission and a Schottky diode as a nonlinear element. A fundamental performance limit assuming perfect matching between diode and antenna is calculated and the optimum biasing point of the Schottky diode is found. Except of the necessary battery all elements are passive.
