Catechol-Type Porphyrin-Based Bimetallic MOF for High-Capacity Lithium-Ion Storage

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted considerable attention in the field of energy storage due to their ordered porosity, robust frameworks, and rapid ion diffusion channels. However, most of the original MOFs exhibit poor reaction kinetics and chemical stability when used as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries, which leads to rapid capacity attenuation. Herein, we designed and synthesized a metalloporphyrin-based ligand based on the porphyrin ring and used it to synthesize two bimetallic MOFs (CMF and CMC) with efficient lithium storage active sites. Compared with CMC, CMF exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacity (988 mAh g-1 after 150 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g-1), excellent rate performance, and impressive long-term cycling stability (482.5 mAh g-1 after 800 cycles at a current density of 2500 mA g-1). Meanwhile, we also analyzed the reasons for its excellent electrochemical performance and possible lithium storage mechanism through characterization and theoretical calculations.
