THz Biosensing Based on Interdigitated Metamaterials
In this work, initial experimental results on terahertz biosensing utilizing an interdigitated electrical split-ring resonator (ID-eSRR) structure are presented. The metamaterial sensor comprises nanostructures within the microgap fabricated by electron beam lithography. This approach results in a significant sensitivity enhancement compared to state-of-the-art electrical split-ring resonator architectures. To verify and demonstrate the sensitivity enhancement, the ID-eSRR sensor has been functionalized with DNA and characterized in a first proof-of-principle biosensing experiment.
