Design and performance analysis of a salient-pole modular rotor permanent magnet synchronous machine with damper winding
• A salient-pole modular rotor permanent magnet synchronous machine (SPMRPMSM) with damper winding is designed to improve the adaptability and vitality of the drive system. • The rotor adopts a salient-pole modular structure to facilitate manufacturing and maintenance. • The damper winding is installed on the rotor modules to enhance the adaptability and vitality of the drive system. • The prototype can operate stably under changing loads and speed regulation. Aiming at the inadequate stability of drive equipment such as ships and mining machinery under varying loads and disturbances, a salient-pole modular rotor permanent magnet synchronous machine (SPMRPMSM) with damper winding is proposed in this paper. In order to facilitate manufacturing and maintenance, the rotor adopts a salient-pole modular structure. The damper winding is installed on the rotor modules to enhance the adaptability and vitality of drive systems. The mathematical model and integral design methodology of the SPMRPMSM with damper winding are described. The electromagnetic performance of the SPMRPMSM devoid of damping winding is compared, the cogging torque and load torque ripple are decreased by over 3.5% and 5%, respectively. In addition, the heat dissipation performance of the SPMRPMSM with damper winding is analyzed to ensure its operational reliability. A 315kW prototype has been developed based on the aforementioned design methodology. The temperature rise and load tests have been conducted. The stability and reliability of the proposed SPMRPMSM with damper winding are verified by simulation and experimental results, serving as a reference for further research on this kind motors.
