CFD-based design of innovative membrane oxygenators for gas exchange optimization and blood damage control
The attached file contains the poster presented at the 21st Multiphase Flow Conference & Short Course: Multiphase Flows - Simulation, Experiment and Application (Dresden, Germany). The research focuses on the investigation of fluid dynamics and mass transfer phenomena within membrane modules for blood oxygenation. By leveraging Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and the application of species transport equations, this work evaluates different fiber configurations to provide detailed insights into the effects of 3D geometry and varying flow conditions. Specifically, the study characterizes the relationship between 3D membrane structure, shear stress distribution, and mass transfer efficiency, contributing to the design and optimization of next generation oxygenation devices.
